Senator Steph Hodgins-May
>> Yeah, it' just be good to to have a bit more data around um why. Yeah, we'll get you if there are a number of applications being made and how many are being approved. Um, Minister, does the government have a target for the proportion of child care delivered by not for-p profofit and public providers?
Senator Jess Walsh
>> Um, Senator, you know, as I said, um, uh, on Four Corners, um, which was on on Monday, um, the government wants to see more not for profofit early learning. Um, and, you know, we're taking a number of steps um, to to do that. um the building fund operational support as we've described taking um those opportunities where we can like for example supporting Good Start um in securing some of the edge um services um continuing to um explore how we can support the not for profofit sector to grow and expand um the main body of work that really underpins um next steps in the sort of work that you're talking about their senator that would inform future considerations including the types of considerations that you're talking about um as you know is the service delivery prices project um that is the foundational piece of work um that we are doing to understand um the cost of delivering early learning across different provider types, different locations, different cohorts.
Senator Steph Hodgins-May
>> Yeah, I've got more questions about that coming up shortly. It's more about
Senator Jess Walsh
whether there's a target work that is the work that we need to complete before we um make further policy decisions.
Senator Steph Hodgins-May
>> Thank you. Yeah, I was really hoping to know whether there was a figure yet and I suppose if government does have this plan to move towards universal system um shaped by community need rather than when commercial operators choose to invest, it seems like a a fairly step to take. But um has a department modeled what the provider mix will look like in five or 10 years if current trends continue?
Ms. Kylie Crane
>> Uh no senator.
Senator Steph Hodgins-May
>> No. All right. Um do you is that something that you think is potentially worthwhile doing in with the view to moving towards a universal system as prime minister has indicated?
Ms. Kylie Crane
>> Probably a matter of opinion
Senator Steph Hodgins-May
>> or perhaps I'll ask the senator sorry ask the minister.
Senator Jess Walsh
>> Um I mean you just asked me a question that was very close to that and I gave you an answer. Um the the next step of reform for us uh is the service delivery prices project that works underway.
Senator Steph Hodgins-May
>> Um back to the Oh, I know that we've got a few more minutes. Yeah. Um to
Speaker 27
>> Oh, I'm due to rotate you. I think I finishing the you're two minutes before the break or
Senator Jess Walsh
>> Yeah. So, so you were due to rotate after this one. Thank you.
Senator Steph Hodgins-May
>> Oh, then I've got a little block on compliance. So, perhaps
