>> So thank you. That they'll havefasttrack Australian citizenship.
Natasha Fox

Malcolm Roberts
understand. Um, are these these peoplegoing to be fullyfledged diggers in theADF?>> Okay.
Natasha Fox
>> Across the three services.
Malcolm Roberts
>> Thank you. Are they going to be mixedacross integrated into the services orspecial units in each service?
Natasha Fox
>> No, they'll be integrated. Senator,
Malcolm Roberts
>> and why do you pick uni graduates or unistudents?
Natasha Fox
>> Uh, because this is a pilot in the firstinstance. We want to make sure thatwe're testing to make sure that oursystems work. And this is in conjunctionwith Papa Guini. So we've limited it tothree universities because it's up to 50people for the pilot. So we have madesure with um
Malcolm Roberts
>> So you're using the university to toscreen.
Natasha Fox
>> Yes. To make sure because it's againstthe entry requirements to join the ADF.It is not a separate entry requirementsystem. It's against the ADF standards.
Malcolm Roberts
>> Okay. Um could you go over again how howwhat what the duration of training willbe in Australia for each of these
Natasha Fox
people? It'll be the same duration inAustralia.
Malcolm Roberts
>> So when they come here, they'll starttraining.
Natasha Fox
>> Yes. They'll do the normal um trainingthat the Australian Defense Forceundertakes.
Malcolm Roberts
>> Why are we requiring PNG citizens to berecruited into the ADF? Is it part of amutual agreement?
Hugh Jeffrey
>> That's right, Senator. It is um it is auh ambition of both leaders of Australiaand Papa New Guinea to ensure that ourforces can work more closer together asallies.Part of that ability to work more closertogether and indeed to haveinteroperable and interchangeable forcesis is through is to start with personneland uh um the government uh bothgovernments have therefore asked us todesign and develop a process that willallow this to occur in a mannerconsistent with the domestic andinternational obligations on of bothcountries and the constitutionalobligations of both countries. Andthat's the process that General Fox hasset out. Our um our our timeline here isthat we envisionage this occurring overthe long term. So we want to start slow.We want to get this right and we want tomake sure that we provide a pathwayuh for uh PNG nationals to recruit intothe ADF uh that gives them maximumopportunity to succeed. um and that thiswill stand as a core foundation for thetwo countries defense systems workingtogether into the future.
