>> Okay.
Hon Jane Hume
>> Oh, that's all right.
Hon James McGrath
>> Um, Clark, the department's only reportstates that Senate committee activityremains at historically elevated levels. That That's correct.
Mr Henry Pike
>> I think that's right, Senator. It's comedown a little bit again from peaks thatwe saw a couple of years ago. We sawparticularly peaks in relation tonumbers of select committees and selectcommittee activity and that's retreateda little bit. Um so staff are um verymuch uh engaged in busyiness. You knowthe the committees themselves are verybusy as I think you would all umrecognize. But I don't think that it'sas frenetic as it has been. um a coupleof years ago. So, it's come off thathigh water mark.
Hon James McGrath
>> How many committee inquiries did thedepartment support during the last
Mr Henry Pike
>> Again, I'd have to go to the annualreportfor that. Um we well, we did circulateto this committee ahead of um thesehearings a letter um outlining the levelof committee activity. So, you have

that. I don't know, but I'd likeeverybody listening to know because thatwould of um shine a light on yourbrilliant work.>> Not everybody reads your annual reports,Clark. Um
Mr Henry Pike
>> I I think that's very wise of them. Um>> um so um in the um>> 48th Parliament to date um11 matters that were readopted from theprevious parliament. 73 bills and 39other references have been supportedthis parliament. Uh to date um 158reports have been tabled. That compareswith 161 tabled at the same time in thelast parliament. Um hearings held acomparison again. We've had 158 standingcommittee hearings. That's exactly thesame as at this time in the 47thParliament. And we've had only 84estimates hearings, which is slightlydown on the number held at this time inthe previous parliament as well. Um, andwe're currently supporting seven selectcommittees and one joint selectcommittee as well as the um jointstanding committees that we support andI think there are um five of them.
