Senator Helen Polley

I have some questions in relation to the disaster ready fund. Uh if we can ask some of those. So it relates to uh Tasmania and the integrated fire camera network. I was wondering if you could give us an update on the project, but also outline the critical nature and its role in bush fire season.

Patrick Burford

Thanks, Member. I'll ask Mr. Carter to um talk about that uh project, just noting that as my previous testimony uh yet to announce round four outcomes for TASI, and that'll happen imminently. Um, but but this project relates to a um uh one of the earlier rounds, so I'll ask Ms. Carnot to the first time.

Senator Helen Polley

Yeah, it's round three, so it's pretty important.

Sophie Cartwright

Good morning, uh Senator Sophie Cartwright, Assistant Coordinator General of Resilience Programme. Thank you for the question. The Tasmanian integrated fire camera network project received 1.439 million in Australian government funding under, as you rightfully point out, disaster DRF round three. Uh the remaining 2.187 million is being provided by the proponent, the sustainable timber Tasmania and its delivery proponents. The project will enhance Tasmania's early fire detection capability by integrating new and existing camera networks into a centralised online portal using AI-enabled technology with human verification. The project is currently in planning and design, Senator, with the technical designs frameworks and protocols being established. The project is due for completion in June 2028.

Senator Helen Polley

Thank you for that. Another successful project was around building flood resilience in key areas of Glenorgan Spring Bay on the east coast of Tasmania. Can you uh give us an outline and an update on the work that's been undertaken to achieve these improvements in resilience?

Sophie Cartwright

Uh certainly, Senator. Building the flood resilience in key areas of Glamorgan Spring Bay. The project received um approximately 54 504,000 in Australian government funding under the disaster ready round three. Uh the remaining 63,000 approximately is being uh provided by the proponent, uh, the Morgan Spring Bay Council. The project will improve flood resilience in Glamorgan Spring Bay by implementing effective infrastructure improvements and repairing management strategies. It will also trial river monitoring devices to provide early warning of flooding and improve community awareness and preparedness. The project is in the stage of initiation. The grant agreement has been executed and work on the communication uh plan is due to begin shortly, and the project is due for completion in June 2028, Senator.

Senator Helen Polley

Thank you very much for those. Um just when will round four be announced?

Patrick Burford

Um Senator uh the three jurisdictions outcomes have been announced so far, Queensland and Victoria was last week. ACT was this morning. Um the remaining jurisdictions will be announced over the next short period of time. Um as they are announced, we also published a list of the full suite of the successful projects on the NEMA website. Um we'll work with our lead agencies that we work through, which will also handle their own communications with the proponents and and that that website also includes their first three rounds as well. So you've got all states in the first three rounds, the three states that have been announced in round four, and that'll progressively be added to as the the further announcements happen over the next couple of weeks.

Mr Pat Hetherington

Just on just on timing, Senator, we we have to work with jurisdictions around timing as well. So we'll we'll settle those.

Senator Helen Polley

Thank you very much.
