know if Tasmania's highquality eucalypt log quotota will become problematic under the new bilateral bilateral agreement and

Matt Lowe

>> Um I'll defer to colleagues.

Senator Vanessa Bleyer

>> It's currently a minimum of 137,000 cubic meters per year. So will that that highquality eucalypt log quotota become

Guy Bursle

Uh, Senator, I I think it's probably not possible for us to comment on specific elements of Tasmania's regulatory framework that may or may not require change. I think in a in a general sense, the bilateral process which is led by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment, and Water, um, is, I suppose, benchmarking the Tasmanian Forest Management System as it currently is against the reform DPPC act. And then >> [clears throat] >> um should changes be required to elements of that then that's subject to a Tasmanian process um to to occur before a bilateral agreement can be entered into.

Senator Vanessa Bleyer

>> And so what is the scope of indirect effects of harvesting that will be considered for approvals under the new bilateral agreement? And what what I mean by that is will the scope include you know habitat fragmentation, altered fire regimes, things like that and if so what else?

Guy Bursle

>> Um well I think that that's a question better directed to DQ. uh most of those things would be uh matters that they would have to consider as to whether the Tasmanian system meets the requirements such that they exist in relation to th that list that you provided under the EPBC act. So I think that's really a question for DQ.
