>> Mhm. [clears throat] And Minister, yousaid that there's more work to do overthe forward over after after theforwards uh afterI kind of take exception to becausethere's so much work to do right now.>> Yeah.>> And the CSRO has lost more staff underthe Albani Labor government than anygovernment in history. So more than theAbbott government. How are we in asituation where under an Albany Laborgovernment we lose more researchers fromscience from Cyro than any government inhistory at a time where it seems that wedesperately need more investment inscience and research to deal with thechallenges we face.
Senator The Hon Tim Ayres
>> Yeah. I think um having listened to theex the evidence that um Dr. Hilton hasprovided to youuh about the um the work that is goingon to keep the science capabilitycontemporaryuh and the funding additional fundingsupport that the government has offered.Um what I was taking to you when Italked about work that needs to go onis um the work that needs to happenwithin the CSRO to uh to do the workthat uh that Dr. Hilton has describedbut also to make sure that where thereare facilities that they are, you know,in a position to really contributeuh that we're leveraging the most thatwe can in science and industrialresearch and commercialization termsfrom those facilities.Um they're making a real contribution.Um so when I talk about that kind ofwork like that I'm talking about thelong-termeffort that is required um and the workthat we can do over the next four yearsto make sure that the organization is ina position>> to contribute in the 2030s and the 2040slike I'm just saying there is this isnot a set and forget position from thegovernment where it's just finding anallocation and then leaving it to theCSRO to do that work. I'm very engagedwith uh uh Dr. Hilton and the board andthe CSRO team because this work reallymatters for the country. Uh and we'veprovided uh additional support over theforwards to stabilize the position andto make sure the CSRO is in a positionto make quality decisions, but I don'tresolve from the fact that there's morework and more commitment that's going tobe engaged over the coming years. Wehave we have backed in the organizationin a way that previous governmentshaven't. Uh and we're going to keep
