Senator The Hon James McGrath
Thank you.I I do have some of the questions inthis area that I might just shift to.Um just to get an update from thedepartment. I'm pretty sure you knowuh can I get a brief update in relationto the cease and recommence process forMOS acts staff?um as to the concerns I previouslyraised in this area.
Simon Newnham
>> Yeah, Senator, thank you. Thank you forthe question. And I'm conscious uh thishas been an issue for some time. You'veraised it with us for some time. Um ithas taken us longer than we would haveliked to solve. What I what I can say,Senator, is we have identified asolution to the cease and recommenceissue. And just um to remind there aretwo main goals here with the ratherunique uh provision for ministerial andparliamentary staff um where they canhave a day's break in their employmentum but receive termination monies butalso need access to the parliamentaryexpenses management scheme uhimmediately.um uh it has taken us longer than wewould have uh liked to identify asolution but that is because it is muchmore technically complex uh than firstthought. It also challengesuh the sort of wider integrity of thedata capture on that uh IT platform. Umbut uh we've identified a solution. Ithas 16 work uh um packages if you likethat need to be solved. uh recently wehad made our way through seven of thoseand we are have a level of confidence wecan solve the remaining nine. After thatwe'll undertake a validation process. Umand that's important senator because wewant to make sure that the users i.e.ministerial and parliamentary staff umdon't see any minimal if any change totheir use of the the PEM system. uh andwe also want to make sure like I saidearlier that that the making the changein this area does not impact on the dataholdings elsewhere and uh inadvertentlycause greater issues than it solves.Noting that of course the manyparliamentary staffers that use thissystem are joined by thousands of publicservants uh as well and we don't want toum uh unintentionallyuh disrupt uh that wider system. So weare working very hard internally andwith SAP Australia and SAP India. Uh andas I said we we we we do believe we havea solution. We're working on gettingthat in place as soon as possible. Um itwill take us into next year. We are veryconscious of having this sorted out asfar ahead of the next election aspossible. noting that is the the sort ofsurge period where this comes uh tofruition most most prominently.
Senator The Hon James McGrath
