ANAO, but um I would like to welcome theHonorable Senator Don Farrell. UmMinister, would you care to make astatement at this point in time? I would
Senator The Hon Don Farrell
like to make a statement but I might doit at the time when I would ordinarilybe um
Speaker 1
>> fantastic. We will come back to you atthat point. Um we'll go back to SenatorMcDonald.
Senator Susan McDonald
>> Thank you very much, Chair. Um can Ijust go back and clarify on um uh onyour last questionthat the definition of scope three isstill contested given that we are askingcompaniesum to report on scope three. uh howyes I if if the audit office doesn'tknow how to define scope three how arewe asking companies to measure and trackon scope three
Carla Jago
>> um so there is a definition for scope 3but there's a lot of judgment that goesinto determining what that number is soit's not an easy to apply formulathere's a lot of judgment about whatscope 3 emissions are for thesustainability reports that were donefor the 2526 six financial year entitiesdid not have to do scope 3 emissions andhave that audited. So we actually didn'taudit scope 3 emissions for the 20 sorrythe 2526 year. Um so we audited um thesustainability reports for fourCommonwealth companies NBN, Snowy Hydro,um Australian Rail Corporation and ASC.Um and each of those we did issue umlimited assurance auditors reports umbut none of those covered the scope 3emissions as they were required to.
Senator Susan McDonald
>> Right. I'm I'm intrigued because we'velegislated that companies have to reporton scope 3 emissions but the governmentauditorum is saying that it is uh there'sjudgment around it. Um and I assume thisis where the qualitative statements fromsustainability reporting is coming from.
Carla Jago
>> Yes. So there's absolutely judgment init and companies are reporting but theydidn't need to get it audited for the 2526 year. So we did not audit thosenumbers this past year.
