that exist today. >> Okay, just last line of questioning from me and this is on um animals for research purposes. Um could you tell me how many approvals and for which animals have they been granted for the importation and exportation of animals for research purposes in Australia let's say last year

Speaker 31

>> uh that's not that's not our uh responsibilities um senator so that that would either be um within the health portfolio

Speaker 30

>> or the environment portfolio >> even the import and export doesn't come under you I thought that came under

Speaker 31

>> uh so we we won't regulate those animals for um uh research purposes. We would regulate them in terms of do they meet the uh either the biocurity or the importing country requirements of the other countries. So we don't we're not the responsible authority around um their use for potential use in um

Speaker 30

>> so you wouldn't have even the numbers of those animals which have been imported

Speaker 31

or exported. >> Uh I I will take it on notice in terms of whether we have those breakdowns. Um I I know that Austral I can give you some numbers around um u mice. We actually export quite a few mice if you're interested in in those numbers.

Speaker 30

>> Well, if you could take that on notice. I'm more interested in primates and the species of primates. >> Yeah. >> So, if you could take that on notice uh and provide me for the last 3 years. >> Yeah. >> And then um also if any import or um any applications for import were rejected for primates and then how many import permits are currently active for how many animals and which species? So

Speaker 31

>> yeah, >> I can put them on notice as well. >> I'll take that on notice. Um noting that it'll be the environment portfolio around sites requirements and the health portfolio around uh the appropriate use

Speaker 30
